Uzbek National With Medicines Worth Rs 1.3 Crore Arrested At Delhi Airport

An Uzbek national carrying more than 29,000 strips of medicine, worth about Rs 1.3 crore, was arrested by Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) personnel at the Delhi airport, officials said on Thursday.

The passenger was intercepted by the security personnel on Wednesday morning at the terminal 3 of the Indira Gandhi International (IGI) airport as his movement was found to be suspicious, a CISF officer said.

A bag stuffed with medicines was found from the passenger, he said. The man was headed for Tashkent in an Uzbekistan Airlines flight.

A total of 29,200 strips of Mesopril kit tablets were found in the bag, the officer said. The medicine is used for medical termination of early pregnancy, controlling excessive blood sugar level and treating gastric ulcers.

"As the passenger could not produce valid authorisation for carrying such a huge quantity of medicines, he was offloaded from the plane and handed over to customs officials," the CISF officer said.

The CISF provides a counter-terrorist and counter-sabotage cover to the Delhi airport.

Top Court Reserves Order On Maharashtra MP's Plea In Caste Certificate Case

The Supreme Court on Wednesday reserved its verdict on Lok Sabha MP Navneet Kaur Rana's plea challenging the Bombay High Court verdict cancelling her caste certificate.

On June 8, 2021, the high court had said the 'Mochi' caste certificate was obtained fraudulently using fabricated documents. It had also imposed a fine of Rs 2 lakh on the Amravati MP. It said the records indicated that she belonged to the 'Sikh-Chamar' caste.

A bench comprising justices JK Maheshwari and Sanjay Karol reserved its judgement on the plea of the independent lawmaker who represents Maharashtra's Amravati constituency that is reserved for scheduled castes.

The top court had earlier stayed the high court verdict cancelling Rana's caste certificate.

Rana, backed by the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), won from Amravati in 2019 while claiming she was a member of the 'Mochi' caste.

A division bench of the high court had asked Rana to surrender the certificate within six weeks and asked her to pay the penalty of Rs 2 lakh to the Maharashtra Legal Services Authority.

The high court had held that Rana's claim of belonging to the 'Mochi' caste for obtaining the scheduled caste certificate itself was fraudulent and made with the intention of obtaining various benefits available to a candidate from such a category despite knowing she does not belong to that caste.

"The application (for caste certificate) was made intentionally to make a fraudulent claim to enable the respondent no.3 (Rana) to contest the election for the post of Member of Parliament on a seat reserved for a scheduled castes candidate," the high court had said in its judgment.

The high court had passed the order on a plea seeking cancellation of the caste certificate dated August 30, 2013 issued by the Mumbai deputy collector, identifying Rana as a member of the 'Mochi' caste.

Shiv Sena leader Anandrao Adsul had filed a complaint with the Mumbai District Caste Certificate Scrutiny Committee, which ruled in Rana's favour and validated the certificate. He then approached the high court.

He had contended that Rana obtained the certificate using forged and fabricated documents. It was obtained by using the influence of Navneet Rana's husband Ravi Rana, who was a member of the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly, he alleged.

The high court had held that the order passed by the Scrutiny Committee was totally perverse, without the application of mind, and contrary to the evidence on record.

The bench had noted that the original birth certificate of Navneet Rana did not mention the caste 'Mochi'.

2 Children Killed In Lightning Strike As Hailstorms Hit Madhya Pradesh

Two children were killed in a lightning strike on Tuesday in Madhya Pradesh's Shahdol district as several areas in the state received heavy rain and hailstorms, officials said. In Bhopal, strong winds uprooted trees in several localities. A six-year-old boy and a nine-year-old girl were struck by a bolt from the sky while collecting wood near a tree at Chhatwai village, resulting in their death, said Sohagpur police station in-charge Bhupendra Mani Patel. Both belonged to a tribal community, he said.

Hailstorms and thunderstorms hit several places including Bhopal, Vidisha, Raisen and other districts. A scientist at the India Meteorology Department's Bhopal office said a maximum wind speed of 74 kilometres per hour (kmph) was recorded in Bhopal, 48 kmph in neighbouring Sehore, and 43 kmph in Shajapur.

In East Madhya Pradesh, a maximum wind speed of 65 kmph was recorded in Singrauli and 50 kmph in Rewa among other places, he said.

The hailstorm with lightning and strong winds (70-90 kmph) is likely to continue over Narmadapuram, Pachmarhi, Betul, South Bhopal, South Sehore, Raisen, Sanchi, Bhimbetka, Jabalpur, Bhedaghat, Damoh, Narsinghpur, Seoni, and Chhindwara and Pench.

Moderate thunderstorms with lightning are likely to occur in south Vidisha, Harda, Sagar, Mandla and Kanha, Katni, Dindori and other areas.

Chief Minister Mohan Yadav chaired a meeting and directed the district collectors to conduct a survey of crops damaged due to hailstorms and excessive rain. "A survey of farmers affected by the hailstorm and excessive rain should be conducted with seriousness and sensitivity. Appropriate relief amount should be made available to them," he said.

He said that all the ministers, MPs and MLAs should monitor the survey.

PM Lays Foundation Stone For Redevelopment Of 21 Stations In Chhattisgarh

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday virtually inaugurated and laid the foundation stones for several railway projects, including redevelopment of 21 stations and 83 road over/under bridges in Chhattisgarh.

The PM inaugurated and laid the foundation stones of a total of 2,000 railway infrastructure projects worth Rs 41,000 crore across the country via video conferencing, a statement issued by South East Central Railway (SECR) said.

The SECR is headquartered in Bilaspur city of Chhattisgarh.

Chhattisgarh Governor Biswabhusan Harichandan and Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Sharma were virtually linked to the national-level programme from Raipur railway station, it said.

Among the projects, the PM laid foundation stones and inaugurated redevelopment of 37 stations under Amrit Bharat Station Scheme and 185 road over/under bridges under SECR zone, it said.

Of these stations, 21-- Korba, Raigarh, Rajnandgaon, Sarona, Bhatapara, Dongargarh, Bhilainagar, Hathbandh, Bilha, Baikunthpur Road, Ambikapur, Uslapur, Pendraroad, Janjgir Naila, Champa, Baradwar, Dallirajhra, Bhanupratappur, Nipania, Mandirhasaud and Bhilai -- fall in Chhattisgarh, Belpahar and Brajrajnagar in Odisha, Shahdol, Umaria, Anuppur, Bijuri, Mandla Fort, Balaghat, Nainpur, Chhindwara and Seoni in Madhya Pradesh and Itwari, Kamptee, Amgaon, Bhandara Road and Tumsar Road in Maharashtra, the release said.

Of the 183 road over/under bridges, 83 are in Chhattisgarh, it added.

Speaking at the function at Raipur station, Governor Harichandan said under the leadership of Prime Minister Modi, the country has been scripting a new story of change and Indian Railways has been going through golden phase of its rejuvenation.

As a result of special emphasis on infrastructure development over the last years, India has become the fastest-growing rail network system in the world, he said.

In this year's Railway Budget (for financial year 2024-25), more than Rs 6,896 crore has been allocated to Chhattisgarh, which is 22 times of the average budget given between 2009 and 2014, he stated.

There is a plan to redevelop both Durg and Raipur stations and make them world-class. Semi high-speed Vande Bharat trains are being operated in the state. Under an ongoing campaign, 32 stations are being redeveloped at a rapid pace, the Governor maintained.

Chhattisgarh's rail network has been 100 electrified. In the last 10 years, the rail network in the state has expanded by an average of 162 kilometres every year, which is several times more than what was done between 2009 and 2014, he added.

"Unfortunate": Minister As Akali Dal Leader Raises Farmers' Issue At Event

In a veiled attack on Shiromani Akali Dal leader Harsimrat Kaur Badal, Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri, after attending the inauguration of AIIMS Bathinda, on Sunday said that "seasoned politicians" should resist the temptation of injecting their own "political frustration" in these type of occasions.

This comes after Shiromani Akali Dal leader Harsimrat Kaur Badal raised the issue of protesting farmers after the virtual inauguration of AIIMS Bathinda by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

"In this function that I attended virtually, I heard one particular person made a highly political speech. I don't think an occasion like the dedication of a medical facility..... They take an oath and they are totally committed to human life and they're apolitical...Look, the government of the Prime Minister is dealing with those problems in a manner no government has done before," Mr Puri told news agency ANI.

He further said that the event was not the right time and platform to raise other demands and called it "unfortunate."

"The MSP has gone up several times with more coverage and more benefits to the farmers and what the farmers are being paid every three months (under PM Kisan Samman Yojana). The reference to politics in today's programme was unfortunate. I thought seasoned politicians should resist the temptation of injecting their own political frustration into occasions like this," he added.

This comes after PM Modi inaugurated five All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Rae Bareli (Uttar Pradesh), Rajkot (Gujarat), Mangalagiri (Andhra Pradesh), Bathinda (Punjab) and Kalyani (West Bengal), Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that he has completed the guarantee given to the people of Rae Bareli.

During the last round of talks, which ended past midnight on February 18, the panel of three Union ministers made an offer to buy five crops --moong dal, urad dal, tur dal, maize and cotton--from farmers at MSP for five years through central agencies.

However, the protesting farmers turned down the demand and returned to their protest sites.

The SAD and BJP became alliance partners in 1996, but the controversy over the Centre's now-repealed agriculture laws led to the SAD one of the BJP's oldest allies breaking away from the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) in 2020.

Minister Arjun Munda Calls For Suggestions Amid Centre, Farmers' Impasse

Amid a deadlock in talks between farmers and the central government, Union Agriculture Minister Arjun Munda appealed to the citizens to maintain peace and has invited suggestions.

Speaking to ANI, Agriculture Minister Munda said, "We should try to maintain peace in the country. We have always conversed and held talks in order to find a solution and will continue to do so. We welcome all the suggestions, too. I hope we will discuss the issue further. The Government of India is dedicated to the development of the agriculture sector.

The protesting farmers, whose demands include a legal guarantee for minimum support price, had earlier rejected the government's offer after the fourth round of talks.

The Centre however expressed readiness for the fifth round of talks with the farmers while urging them to find a solution through 'dialogue'.

"After the fourth round, the government is ready to discuss all the issues like MSP, crop diversification, stubble issue, FIR in the fifth round. I again invite the farmer leaders for discussion," Arjun Munda said while speaking to ANI on Wednesday.

"I appeal to them to maintain peace and we should find a solution through dialogue," he added.

He said that the farmers have not responded to the invite yet while appealing to move forward with the talks.

"No information has come yet (from farmers' side). We appeal that we should move forward for talks and present our stand. The government also wants to move forward and find a solution," the Union Minister said.

On February 19, the farmer leaders rejected the Centre's proposal on MSP purchase, saying "not in farmer's favour".

"After the discussion of both forums, it has been decided that if you analyse, there is nothing in the government's proposal. Our government imports palm oil worth Rs 1.75 crore from outside that also causes illness to general public. If this money is given to the farmers of the country to grow oil seed crops and MSP is announced, then that money can be used here. This is not in the favour of farmers. We reject it," farmer leader Jagjit Singh Dallewal said.

24-Year-Old Man Burned All His Degrees, Died By Suicide In UP

A 24-year-old man died by suicide in Uttar Pradesh because he was not "getting a job", police said today. The man, who had recently appeared for a police recruitment exam, hanged himself in his home, his family claimed.

Brijesh Pal, who was from Kannauj, left behind a suicide note where he mentioned that he burned all his education certificates. "What is the use of degrees when one cannot get a job. I spent half of my life studying only," the note said.

"The student blamed no one for his death. He died by suicide because he was not getting a job," the police said.

His body has been sent for post-mortem, they said.

Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav attacked the BJP government over the incident saying it's a "dream" to find a job under its regime.

"BJP, which deploys every trick to come into power, turns away in the name of providing jobs. It is a very sad news that upset with the tragedy of joblessness, a young man from Kannauj, Brajesh Pal, committed suicide by hanging himself," Mr Yadav said on X.

An agitation against the alleged leaking of question papers of the police recruitment examination entered its fifth day on Friday.

The aspirants held a protest at the front gate of the Uttar Pradesh Public Service Commission.

Murder In Delhi Mall, Man Celebrating Birthday Stabbed By Restaurant Staff

A 23-year-old man was allegedly stabbed to death at a restaurant in a mall in outer Delhi's Pitampura area while he was celebrating his birthday with his friends, police said on Thursday.

According to the police, they have procured the CCTV footage of the incident and have detained six people, including the owner of the restaurant.

The man has been identified as Jatin, a resident of Budh Vihar area, they said, adding that his friends also suffered injuries while trying to save him.

"It all started due to some misunderstanding with the restaurant workers. A quarrel broke out between the workers and Jatin, who was later stabbed in the chest, and two of his friends, identified as Varad and Prashan, also suffered injuries when they intervened," a senior police officer said.

According to the police, they got a PCR call on Wednesday at 6.30 am from B M Hospital about a man who was admitted there with serious injuries.

"Soon after getting the call, a police team including ACP Mangolpuri and SHO of Mangolpuri rushed to the spot. Initial investigation suggested an accident. However, further inquiry revealed that it was an incident of quarrel at a hotel," the officer said.

Police said local inquiry revealed that the incident took place when Jatin, a private bank employee, was celebrating his birthday along with his friends at a restaurant located in Vardmaan Mall in Pitampura.

"After he was stabbed, Jatin was rushed to the hospital where he was declared dead. A PCR call regarding a quarrel was also received at 3.27 am. An FIR under sections of the Indian Penal Code including that dealing with murder was registered and the task was assigned to Special Staff of the Outer district," said the officer.

8 Of 12 Sulking Jharkhand Congress MLAs, Camping In Delhi, Back In Ranchi

Eight of the 12 disgruntled Congress MLAs, who were camping in Delhi for the past four days, demanding that new faces should be made ministers, returned to Ranchi on Wednesday and claimed they got "positive indications" from the high command.

Chief Minister Champai Soren, who is heading a JMM-led coalition government, has inducted into his cabinet four senior Congress MLAs as ministers.

A group of Congress legislators were unhappy with that move and went to Delhi on Saturday to meet central leaders seeking their intervention.

After arriving at Ranchi's Birsa Munda Airport, the MLAs said that the Congress high command is keeping an eye on Jharkhand and will take the appropriate decisions at the appropriate time.

Jamtara MLA Irfan Ansari said he met AICC general secretary KC Venugopal on Tuesday and had a detailed discussion about the state Congress and ministers.

"Venugopal ji said that they have information about all the activities of Jharkhand and the party will take appropriate decisions...We gave a detailed report to him,” Ansari said.

He said the Congress MLAs would attend the Budget session of the Jharkhand assembly beginning from February 23.

"We do not want to give any opportunity to BJP," he said.

Mahagama MLA Deepika Pandey Singh said they had got "positive indications" during their stay in Delhi.

The MLAs said that the AICC officials asked the legislators to continue their good work.

Following the state Congress' decision, Alamgir Alam, Rameshwar Oraon, Banna Gupta and Badal Patralekh became ministers again.

Most of the disgruntled Congress MLAs objected to the inclusion of Banna Gupta, who had courted controversy recently after BJP MP Nishikant Dubey posted a video purportedly showing him engaging in an "obscene" phone conversation with a woman.

Gupta had termed the video "fake and edited".

State Congress chief Rajesh Thakur said that the issues flagged by the 12 Congress legislators are being looked into.

Eight MLAs including three from the Congress party were sworn in as ministers in the 11-member Champai Soren cabinet on February 16.

Senior JMM leader Champai Soren was sworn in as the Chief Minister after his predecessor Hemant Soren was arrested by the ED on January 31, shortly after he resigned as the chief minister.

Champai Soren won the trust vote garnering the support of 47 MLAs in the 81-member assembly.

"We're Open": S Jaishankar On India Mediating To End Russia-Ukraine War

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar has indicated that India was open to considering playing the role of a mediator to end the Russia-Ukraine conflict if approached but noted that New Delhi does not believe it should initiate anything on its own.

In an interview with German economic daily Handelsblatt, he also said that following the Ukraine conflict, India's energy suppliers in the Middle East gave priority to supplying petroleum products to Europe that paid higher prices and New Delhi did not have any option but to procure Russian crude oil.

Mr Jaishankar asserted that just as India does not expect Europe to have a view of China that is identical to New Delhi's, Europe should understand that India cannot have a view of Russia that is identical to the European one.

He said India has had a "stable" and "very friendly" relationship with Russia, and that Moscow never hurt New Delhi's interests.

"We, on the other hand, had a politically and militarily much more difficult relationship with China, for example," he said.

On India's continuing military cooperation with Russia notwithstanding the Ukraine conflict, Jaishankar said it is going on "because many Western countries have long preferred to supply Pakistan and not India." Jaishankar said India is "deeply convinced, and are publicly committed to bringing the conflict to an end".

"Everyone is suffering from this conflict. I don't know exactly how it will end, we're not deep enough into the process to know," he said.

Asked if that isn't a reason why India could be a mediator, Mr Jaishankar said: "Theoretically, yes. We have already helped with very specific issues." "When Turkey negotiated the corridor through the Black Sea, for example. And we were very supportive of the inspections by the International Atomic Energy Agency, IAEA, of the Zaporizhzhya nuclear power plant," he said.

"Wherever we can help, we are happy to do so. We are open when we are approached. However, we do not believe that we should initiate anything in this direction on our own," he added.

Turkey played a key role in activating the corridor to transport grain from Ukraine to various world markets as Russia had blocked it following the escalation of its conflict with Ukraine.

Mr Jaishankar also strongly justified India's procurement of Russian crude oil.

"When the fighting started in Ukraine, Europe shifted a large part of its energy procurement to the Middle East -- until then the main supplier for India and other countries," Mr Jaishankar said.

"What should we have done? In many cases, our Middle-East suppliers gave priority to Europe because Europe paid higher prices. Either we would have had no energy because everything would have gone to them. Or we would have ended up paying a lot more because you were paying more," he said.

In a certain way, we stabilised the energy market that way, he added.

His response came when asked about criticism in Europe against India that its procurement of Russian crude oil is detrimental to the effectiveness of the Western sanctions imposed on Moscow for its invasion of Ukraine.

The external affairs minister argued that if no one had bought the crude oil from Russia and everyone had procured it from other countries, prices on the energy market would have shot up even further.

"Global inflation would have been much higher -- and that would have been a huge political issue in lower-income countries," he said.

"If Europe had wanted to maximize the damage at the time, it would have had to stop all economic relations with Russia completely. But it didn't," he said.

Mr Jaishankar said if Europe was so convinced and the principles were so important, why did it allow relations to end "gently"? "Why were there exceptions for pipeline gas, for individual countries and so on? That's what governments do, they manage politics with an eye on the consequences for their people," he said.

Asked if India would have liked support from Europe in the border conflict with China in 2020, Mr Jaishankar said "My point is: just as I do not expect Europe to have a view of China that is identical to mine, Europe should understand that I cannot have a view of Russia that is identical to the European one." "Let us accept that there are natural differences in relationships," he said.

To a question on whether the Indo-Russian engagement is a burden on the India-Europe ties, Mr Jaishankar said everyone conducts a relationship based on their past experiences.

"If I look at the history of India post-independence, Russia has never hurt our interests. The relations of powers like Europe, the US, China or Japan with Russia, they have all seen ups and downs," he said.

"We have had a stable and always very friendly relationship with Russia. And our relationship with Russia today is based on this experience. For others, things were different, and conflicts may have shaped the relationship," he said.

Asked about India recently agreeing on more arms cooperation with Russia and whether the country is still the most important arms supplier for New Delhi, Mr Jaishankar said: "In terms of inventory, yes, because many Western countries have long preferred to supply Pakistan and not India." "But that has changed in the past 10 or 15 years with the US, for example, and our new purchases have diversified with the US, Russia, France and Israel as the main suppliers," he said.

Will Protest In Front Of Punjab BJP Leaders' Houses: Farm Leader

The Samyukta Kisan Morcha will gherao the residences of BJP leaders in Punjab for three days from Tuesday to press the Centre into accepting the farmers' demands including a legal guarantee to minimum support price on crops, a leader of the outfit has said.

Several farmer outfits, which are part of the Samyukta Kisan Morcha (SKM), have extended their support to the "Delhi Chalo" call given by SKM (Non-political) and Kisan Mazdoor Morcha. The march was stopped by security forces at Shambhu and Khanauri points on Punjab's border with Haryana which led to clashes.

Protesting farmers have stayed put at Shambhu and Khanauri for the sixth day after their march to the national capital was halted.

A group of Union ministers and farmer leaders held a fresh round of talks with farm leaders on Sunday evening in Chandigarh. The two sides met on February 8, 12 and 15 as well but those talks remained inconclusive.

Balbir Singh Rajewal, a leader of the Samyukta Kisan Morcha (SKM), an umbrella body of various farmer unions, said they will stage protests in front of the residences of Punjab BJP leaders, including MPs, MLAs and district presidents, from Tuesday to Thursday.

Interacting with reporters after a meeting of SKM leaders, Mr Rajewal said it has also been decided that they would protest at all toll barriers in the state and make them free for all commuters from February 20 to 22.

The SKM will not accept anything less than the C-2 plus 50 per cent formula for MSP as recommended in the Swaminathan Commission report, he said after the meeting which was also attended by farmer leaders Balkaran Singh Brar and Boota Singh, among others.

The long-pending demands of farmers, the ongoing agitation by SKM (Non-political) and Kisan Mazdoor Morcha) and their multiple rounds of talks with Central ministers were also discussed in the meeting, Rajewal said.

He also said the SKM will hold a high-level meeting on February 22 in Delhi to chalk out future strategy on the demands put up earlier before the Centre during their agitation in 2021 against the now-repealed farm laws.

"Our struggle will continue even if the model code of conduct for the Lok Sabha elections comes into force," he said in reply to a question by reporters.

Besides a legal guarantee of MSP, the farmers are demanding the implementation of the Swaminathan Commission's recommendations, pension for farmers and farm labourers, farm debt waiver, no hike in electricity tariff, withdrawal of police cases and "justice" for the victims of the 2021 Lakhimpur Kheri violence, reinstatement of the Land Acquisition Act, 2013, and compensation to the families of the farmers who died during a previous agitation in 2020-21.

'Unhappy' With Own Ministers, Jharkhand Congress MLAs Issue Warning

Strong resentment is brewing among a section of Congress legislators in Jharkhand over the induction of four party MLAs as ministers in the Champai Soren-led JMM government.

As many as 12 MLAs of the party have threatened to boycott the upcoming assembly session from February 23 and head to Jaipur if the ministers are not replaced by new faces.

The JMM-led alliance in the state has 47 MLAs (JMM has 29, Congress has 17 and RJD has one) in the 81-member assembly.

Unhappy over Congress' decision to give ministerial berths to Alamgir Alam, Rameshwar Oraon, Banna Gupta and Badal Patralekh again, the legislators went into a huddle at Ranchi Circuit House just before the swearing-in ceremony on Friday with plans of boycotting it.

However, persuaded by Jharkhand Congress in-charge Ghulam Ahmed Mir and PCC chief Rajesh Thakur, the MLAs reached Raj Bhavan to attend the ceremony.

"We want replacement of all the four...We the 12 MLAs are together right now, barring the four ministers and Pradeep Yadav. We are waiting for the leadership to take a decision on our demand to change the four ministers.

"We want a minister from each division to cover all the five divisions in the state. We also want implementation of the 'one person, one post' rule made by Rahul Gandhi," MLA Kumar Jaimangal, alias Anup Singh, told PTI.

The Bermo legislator said if they fail to hear anything from the party's state and central leaderships soon, they will be forced to fly to the Rajasthan capital and boycott the budget session of Jharkhand Assembly.

"The Congress has 17 MLAs and the JMM (29). The JMM has already taken the chief minister and the speaker's posts. They have six ministerial berths and we want the remaining one. We are not compromising on that. In case Alamgir Alam is retained, he should quit the post of the Congress Legislature Party leader," Mr Jaimangal demanded.

He said the group of 12 MLAs have already handed over a signed letter to the party chief on the matter.

Senior Congress leader and Mahagama MLA Dipika Pandey Singh told PTI, "We want the party to change the ministers and give opportunity to new faces. Instead of adding more womeswen faces, they have retained one woman minister... How do you justify that."

Bebi Devi, excise minister in the previous Hemant Soren government, was given women and child development and social welfare portfolios.

Devi had contested the Dumri bypoll in 2023 after the death of her husband Jagannath Mahto.

Joba Manjhi, a senior JMM MLA from Manoharpur, who was the women, child development and social security minister in the Hemant Soren government, has been dropped.

Mandar Congress MLA Shilpi Neha Tirkey, too, voiced her discontent.

"During the past four years, we had lots of disapproval and disappointments on the quota given to us...Since there was a sudden opportunity and a new cabinet was being formed under Champai Soren ji, everyone was hopeful that there will be a reshuffle," she told PTI.

"Initially, the swearing-in ceremony was scheduled on February 8. When it was postponed, we were assured that a reshuffle will happen. But it was very disappointing when we saw there was no change and those who were openly praising BJP were retained," Ms Tirkey added.

"Why were new faces not given opportunity... that's why the whole revolt ...We wanted to boycott the swearing-in ceremony, but our state in-charge promised that there will be a good discussion in Delhi about it....It is not about two or four MLAs...It is 12 legislators who are voicing it out together. You appoint anyone...You appoint community-wise, area-wise...We just want fresh faces...We want such faces who can fulfill people's aspirations. These ministers have not delivered in the past four years, what is the guarantee that they will deliver now," she said.

The Congress leadership has given an assurance it will discuss the issue, Ms Tirkey said, adding, "We have made it very clear to KC Venugopal that we want a discussion with senior leaders."

Most of the Congress MLAs objected to the name of Banna Gupta, who had courted controversy recently after BJP MP Nishikant Dubey posted a video purportedly showing him engaging in an "obscene" phone conversation with a woman.

Mr Gupta termed the video "fake and edited".

Congress state chief Rajesh Thakur told PTI that the issues flagged by the 12 Congress legislators are being looked into.

"They have expressed their feelings to me and I shall bring this to the notice of the party central leadership. The decision by the central leadership will be accepted by all. We are hopeful of resolving it very soon," he added.

In the 11-member Champai Soren cabinet, there are only two new faces - Basant Soren, JMM supremo Shibu Soren's youngest son, and JMM's Chaibasa MLA Deepak Birua.

While eight were sworn-in on Friday, the chief minister and two others- Alamgir Alam of Congress and Satyanand Bhokta of RJD - took oath on February 2.

Basant is the younger brother of former chief minister Hemant Soren, who is in judicial custody in a money laundering case linked to an alleged land scam.

On Friday, Jharkhand Mukti Morcha MLA Baidyanath Ram, who was allegedly dropped from the list of ministers at the eleventh hour, said he would not tolerate "this insult" and contest as an independent candidate in the upcoming assembly polls if required.

"Everything was finalised and my name featured in the ministers' list. But, at the last moment, my name was dropped. It is an insult. I will not tolerate it," Mr Ram had asserted, alleging, "Under pressure from the central leadership of Congress, my name was removed."

Mr Ram also claimed that Chief Minister Champai Soren assured him that he would resolve the matter within two days. According to sources, the chief minister is likely to go to Delhi later in the day.

Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) executive president Hemant Soren was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate on January 31, shortly after he resigned as the chief minister.

The BJP has 26 legislators and the AJSU Party has three. The NCP and CPI (ML) have one lawmaker each, apart from two Independents. There is also a nominated member.

Dangal Actor, 19, Died Of Rare Inflammatory Disease: Family

Actor Suhani Bhatnagar, who played young Babita Phogat in Aamir Khan-starrer wrestling drama 'Dangal', died in Delhi yesterday. Her family today revealed that she was suffering from Dermatomyositis, a rare inflammatory disease that causes skin rash and muscle weakness.
The 19-year-old was admitted to All India Institute of Medical Sciences on February 7 and died on February 16 after medical complications.

The family said that the symptoms showed two months ago while she was diagnosed with the disease only ten days back.

"She developed a red spot on her hands about two months ago. We consulted with doctors in different hospitals but it couldn't be diagnosed, said Suhani's mother Puja Bhatnagar.

She was admitted to AIIMS after her health started deteriorating.

Suhani's father Sumit Bhatnagar said there was no improvement in her health and eventually her "lungs got damaged due to an infection and accumulation of excess fluid".

"She was put on the ventilator but there was no improvement," he said.

Her father claimed that there are only five to six people all over the world who have been diagnosed with the disease.

Dermatomyositis is a rare inflammatory disease marked by muscle weakness and a distinctive skin rash. It can also affect other organ systems such as the pulmonary, cardiovascular, and gastrointestinal systems.

The cremation of Suhani Bhatnagar, who was a resident of Faridabad, took place at the Ajronda cremation ground.

She had appeared in the 2016 biographical drama about a wrestler who mentors his two daughters to success. Zaira Wasim played young Geeta while Bhatnagar portrayed the role of Babita. The grown-up versions of the characters were played by Fatima Sana Shaikh and Sanya Malhotra. Aamir Khan played the role of their father, Mahavir Phogat.

Aamir Khan's production house also condoled her death: "We are deeply saddened to hear about our Suhani passing away. Our heartfelt condolences to her mother Poojaji and the entire family. Such a talented young girl, such a team player, 'Dangal' would have been incomplete without Suhani".

Suhani had taken a break from acting to complete her studies.

"Had I Been Son Of Senior Leader...": Ajit Pawar's Swipe At Uncle

In an apparent reference to his uncle, Maharashtra deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar on Friday said he would have easily become the president of the Nationalist Congress Party had he been the son of the "senior" leader.

The statement evoked an angry response from former state minister Jitendra Awhad, a Sharad Pawar loyalist, who said Ajit would not have risen so quickly in Maharashtra politics if he had not been the senior Pawar's nephew.

Speaking at a party function, Ajit Pawar said he was accused of "stealing" the party founded by Sharad Pawar, but the Election Commission of India and Maharashtra assembly Speaker gave rulings in his favour (affirming that the Ajit faction was the real NCP).

"Had I been born to the senior (leader), I would have become party president naturally, in fact, the party would have come under my control. (But) I too was born to your brother," he said, without naming his uncle.

Ajit further said the entire family is against him but party workers are with him.

"We were slandered. It was said we took this decision (to join hands with the BJP) just to stall the inquiries against us. I want to ask, is everyone (who is with him) facing inquiries? he said.

Some people never became ministers, and hence they never faced allegations of corruption, the deputy Chief Minister further said.

"Since you never became a minister, how would any corruption allegation be made against you?...I had the state's responsibility. Those who work, are bound to face allegations. Those who do not work, are bound to remain clean," he said.

Notably, Baramati MP Supriya Sule, Sharad Pawar's daughter, has not held a ministerial post so far in her career.

Had he endorsed Sharad Pawar's choice for the party's president, he would have received appreciation, Ajit further said.

"But when I became the chief of the party, we are dubbed as good for nothing," he said.

He would field from Baramati a candidate who has not contested an election earlier, but the person would have supporters with ample experience, Ajit Pawar said, adding that people should vote for his candidate as if he himself was in the fray.

Hitting back, MLA Jitendra Awhad, who belongs to the Sharad Pawar-led NCP, asked why Ajit did not try and become party president through elections instead of launching a rebellion.

"Had Ajit Pawar not been Sharad Pawar's nephew, he would not have got opportunities so early in his political life. That was why Ajit Pawar became an MP in 1991, an MLA in 1993 and then a (state) minister. From 1999 to 2014, Ajit Pawar held all important portfolios. His acts maligned the party's image but Sharad Pawar overlooked them because he was related to Ajit," Mr Awhad told reporters.

"Tenable, Sustainable": Maharashtra Speaker On His "Real NCP" Ruling

Maharashtra Assembly Speaker called his order recognising Ajit Pawar's faction as the real NCP tenable, sustainable, and based on the principles established by the Supreme Court.

Talking to reporters after delivering the verdict, Mr Narwekar said all the guidelines of the top court were adhered to.

“A reasoned and justifiable order has been delivered today. This verdict is tenable, sustainable, and justified. It has been given on the basis of the sound principles established in accordance with the guidelines given by the top court and disqualification rules,” Mr Narwekar said.

Reacting to the criticism by the Sharad Pawar-led NCP group and Shiv Sena (UBT), he said those who don't know about the 10th Schedule of the Constitution, which deals with anti-defection provisions, can make such a statement.

MP Supriya Sule from the NCP (Sharad Pawar faction) termed Mr Narwekar's ruling "laughable and copy-paste" of what he had done in the Shiv Sena case where the factions led by Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and Uddhav Thackeray had filed disqualification petitions.

An invisible power is actively trying to finish off Shiv Sena and NCP, two important state parties, she said.

“They can't talk on merit. They should comment on the difference between dissent and defection, inter-party dispute and voluntary giving up of party membership,” Mr Narwekar said.

The Speaker also quipped that lawmaker Jitendra Awhad of the Sharad Pawar-led party, as well as Shiv Sena UBT leaders Sanjay Raut and Aaditya Thackeray, were “constitutional experts”.

Popular film actress Gautami Tadimalla on Wednesday called on All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) General Secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami and formally got inducted into the main opposition party in Tamil Nadu.

The 55-year-old actress, who acted in over 120 films and was paired with top stars such as Rajinikanth and actor-politician Kamal Hassan, quit the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in October 2023 after serving it for more than 25 years.

On Wednesday, Gautami, who was born in Srikakulam, Andhra Pradesh, called on former chief minister Palaniswami at his residence in Chennai and formally joined the AIADMK, a press release said.

The AIADMK chief handed over a copy of the book 'Maaperum Tamilkanavu (The Great Tamil Dream)' with an image of former Chief Minister C N Annadurai to Gautami on the occasion.

"I was impressed by Annan (elder brother in Tamil) for his ability to unite everyone to fight for the welfare of the people. Today I am very happy to join the party. By joining the AIADMK, I hope I will be able to serve the people.

"You all know that I was in the BJP for 25 years and had quit that party due to some reasons. I am very happy to join the AIADMK today." Gautami later told reporters.

Centre Ignored MS Swaminathan's Key Recommendation: Uddhav Thackeray

Amid farmers' 'Delhi Chalo' protest, Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray on Tuesday said the Centre announced Bharat Ratna to agriculture scientist M S Swaminathan, but does not implement his recommendations.

Addressing a rally at Shrirampur in Maharashtra's Ahmednagar district, the former Maharashtra chief minister attacked the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and said the government was lobbing tear gas at farmers who already have tears in their eyes.

The Samyukta Kisan Morcha (Non-Political) and the Kisan Mazdoor Morcha are spearheading the 'Delhi Chalo' agitation to put pressure on the Centre for their demands, including a law on minimum support price, for crops and loan waivers.

"The government does not implement the recommendations of the Swaminathan Commission, but gives him Bharat Ratna. Charan Singh (was also given) Bharat Ratna," Thackeray said.

The Swaminathan Commission report talks of Minimum Support Price (MSP), among others.

Last week, the Centre announced Bharat Ratna to M S Swaminathan, known as the father of the green revolution in the country. It also announced Bharat Ratna posthumously to Chaudhary Charan Singh, former prime minister and farmer's leader.

He said farmers are marching toward Delhi for their demands, but they are not allowed to visit the national capital.

Farmers from Punjab faced tear gas shells - some of them dropped by a drone - at two border points as protesters tried to break past barricades set up by the Haryana police to stop them from heading to the national capital.

Police hurled tear gas shells, and the protesters hurled stones, at the Shambhu border near Ambala in Haryana. Tear gas was also used against protesters at the border between the two states in Haryana's Jind district.

Government Releases List Of Countries Where UPI Payments Are Accepted

Payments through India's Unified Payments Interface (UPI) will now be accepted in seven countries after its launch in Sri Lanka and Mauritius on Monday. After the announcement, MyGovIndia, a citizen engagement platform of the Government of India, shared a world map, highlighting the countries where Indians can use UPI to make payments. France, UAE, Mauritius, Sri Lanka, Singapore, Bhutan, and Nepal are the countries that accept UPI payments, according to the government.

''UPI goes Global! India's Unified Payments Interface goes International with launches in Sri Lanka and Mauritius!  An instant, one-stop payment interface showcases 'Make in India, Make for the World,'' the tweet read.

Here's the tweet:

India has been proactive in extending the reach of UPI globally. Last year, India also showcased the UPI system at the G20 meetings, enabling the delegates to experience real-time transactions over the phone.

On Monday, UPI services were rolled out in Sri Lanka and Mauritius, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi describing it as linking historic ties with modern digital technology. In his remarks, PM Modi hoped the new fintech services would help the two nations and said the UPI is implementing "new responsibilities of uniting partners with India".

Before that, the payment system was formally launched at the Eiffel Tower in Paris, on February 2. Notably, Bhutan was the first country to enable UPI transactions through the BHIM app. The UPI digital payment app was virtually launched on July 13, 2021, by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and her Bhutanese counterpart Lyonpo Namgay Tshering.

Last year, a report suggested that Japan might also join India's UPI payment system and promote cooperation on the digital identity system.

Developed by the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI), UPI is an instant real-time payment system to facilitate inter-bank transactions through mobile phones. It powers multiple bank accounts into a single mobile application (of any participating bank), merging several banking features, seamless fund routing, and merchant payments into one hood.

Rahul Gandhi's "Close Aide" Questioned By Cops Over Yatra Route Deviation

A "close aide" of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi was questioned by Assam Police in Jorhat district on Saturday over his alleged role in deviation from the permitted route of the 'Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra' in the northeastern state last month, an officer said.

KB Byju, a former SPG personnel and now a close aide of Mr Gandhi, was questioned for over three hours, and he may be called again although no date has been fixed yet, the police officer said.

"The 'Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra' had passed through Jorhat town on January 18, during which there were some problems and a case was registered at Jorhat Sadar police station. We had issued a notice to the accused in the case, and one of them was KB Byju, who appeared before us today," he said.

Mr Bjyu reached the police station around 10.20 am and was there till 2 pm.

"We have conducted our interrogation for now. If needed, we will call him again during the course of investigation," he said, adding no date has been fixed yet.

Besides Bjyu, several other Congress leaders, including state president Bhupen Kumar Borah and working president Rana Goswami, were named in the FIR for allegedly deviating from the yatra's permitted route in Jorhat town on January 18.

The case was lodged under nine sections, including non-bailable ones, such as 120B (criminal conspiracy), 143 (unlawful assembly), 147 (rioting), 188 (disobedience of order), 283 (causing danger, obstruction or injury), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt) and 353 (criminal force to deter public servant from discharging duty) of the Indian Penal Code.

Section 3 of the Prevention of Damage to Public Property Act, 1984 for alleged mischief causing damage to public property has also been slapped in the FIR.

The police then issued notices to Mr Byju, Mr Borah, Mr Goswami, Congress Jorhat district president Pratul Buragohain and district secretary Abhijit Phukan.

Borah had appeared for questioning on January 31 and has been called again on February 12, while Buragohain and Phukan have been quizzed earlier.

A 'padayatra' (foot march), a part of the yatra, through Jorhat town had allegedly proceeded through a road without permission, causing "stampede-like situation", prompting the Jorhat Police to register the case.

Congress leaders had later claimed that the route deviation occurred due to "confusion" when the padayatra reached a tri-junction and there was no clear marking to the route they were to take.

The yatra had started its Assam leg on January 18 and concluded on January 25, covering 833 km across 17 districts.

The yatra, led by Gandhi, commenced from Manipur on January 14 and will culminate on March 20 in Mumbai.

It plans to cover 6,713 km in 67 days, passing through 110 districts in 15 states.

Central Paramilitary Forces Deployed In Haryana Ahead Of Farmers March

Ahead of farmers' proposed 'Delhi Chalo' march on February 13, Haryana Police has deployed 50 companies of central paramilitary forces to maintain law and order in the state with the authorities on Friday asserting that nobody will be allowed to disturb peace and harmony.

Haryana Director General of Police Shatrujeet Kapur warned of taking strict action if anybody disrupts peace and also appealed to people to maintain peace in the wake of farmers' Delhi march.

The police have asked the farmers not to participate without permission in a planned march next week and have also warned of strict action if they damage public property, police said.

Meanwhile, Kisan Mazdoor Sangharsh Committee general secretary Sarwan Singh Pandher criticized the Haryana government, alleging that police was "raiding" the houses of farmer leaders and allegedly threatening them.

He further said the Punjab-Haryana border was being sealed like an international border.

The Samyukta Kisan Morcha and the Kisan Mazdoor Morcha had announced 'Delhi Chalo' march by more than 200 farmers' unions on February 13 to press the Centre for accepting several demands, including enactment of a law to guarantee a minimum support price (MSP) for crops.

However, the SKM, which had spearheaded the 2020 farmers' stir against the now-repealed farm laws, was not part of the 'Delhi Chalo' march call. It has already given a call for 'bandh' on February 16.

A three-member team of Union ministers on Thursday evening held a detailed discussion here with the leaders of farmer organisations.

After the meeting, the farmer leaders said the Central ministers have assured them that they would hold a second round of the meeting soon.

However, the farmer leaders said their proposed 'Delhi Chalo' march on February 13 still stands.

A senior Haryana Police officer on Friday told PTI that as many as 50 companies of central paramilitary forces comprising Rapid Action Force and Central Reserve Police Force have been deployed in the state.

"We are making adequate arrangements to maintain law and order," said the officer.

"We had placed the request for deploying 65 companies and we have got 50," the officer added.

"Where these forces need to be deployed we have done that," the officer said on the deployment of forces.

Home Minister Anil Vij said the Haryana Police have made fool proof arrangements and nobody will be allowed to disturb peace in the state.

"We will ensure complete peace in our state and will not let it be disrupted in any way," added Mr Vij.

Haryana DGP Kapur, in his post on X, said people should maintain peace and tranquility and strict action will be taken against those who disrupt peace.

He also said rumours should not be spread in social media.

Besides making elaborate security arrangements, the Haryana Police will seal the state's borders with Punjab to prevent the farmers from heading towards the national capital, officials said.

The farmers have planned to head to Delhi from the Ambala-Shambhu border, Khanauri-Jind and the Dabwali border.

The police have already stocked up concrete blocks, barbed wire, sandbags, barricades and other items at the Shambhu border in Ambala to stop the protesters from marching towards the national capital.

A senior police official in Jind district told PTI on Friday that they have arranged barbed wire, containers, barricades and concrete blocks etc and will seal the entry point from Punjab.

The police official said the sarpanches in nearby villages have held their meetings and have assured the authorities that they will not be participating in the march.

In Ambala, Inspector General of Police (Ambala range) Siwas Kaviraj, Superintendent of Police Jashandeep Singh Randhava and Ambala Deputy Commissioner Dr Shaleen visited Haryana-Punjab border near Shambhu toll plaza and assessed the security arrangements there.

The police directed petrol pump dealers in Ambala not to give fuel to those who were sporting farmer's union flags on their vehicles.

Water cannon vehicles and drone have been deployed at the Shambhu border, officials said.

Meanwhile, the farmer unions in Ambala have also been making preparations for the 'Delhi Chalo' march.

They have been conducting meetings in various villages and have also been arranging food items to carry along with them while marching toward Delhi.

The Ambala district magistrate has imposed Section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC) in the district. The district administration has written to 400 village 'Sarpanches', persuading them not to participate in the agitation.

Besides a legal guarantee for minimum support price (MSP), the farmers are also demanding implementation of the Swaminathan Commission's recommendations, pensions for farmers and farm labourers, farm debt waiver, withdrawal of police cases and "justice" for victims of the Lakhimpur Kheri violence.

In 2020, a large number of farmers from Punjab and nearby areas of Ambala gathered at the Shambhu border and broke police barriers to march towards Delhi.

The farmers, mainly from Punjab, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh, held a year-long protest on Delhi's border points -- Singhu, Tikri and Ghazipur -- against the three now-repealed farm laws.

Delhi Metro Told To Set Up Panel To Probe Metro Wall Collapse Incident

The Delhi government on Thursday directed the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) to constitute a committee of experts to look into the wall collapse incident at the Gokulpuri metro station that claimed the life of a man and left four others injured, Transport Minister Kailash Gahlot said.

A 53-year-old man died on Thursday when a portion of the Gokulpuri metro station on the Pink Line in northeast Delhi collapsed, police said. The man was on his scooter when he came under the debris of the collapsed wall of the elevated platform. "I have already told MD, Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) to constitute a committee of experts to examine the incident from all angles," Mr Gahlot told PTI.

Later in a post on X, he called the incident "deeply regrettable". "I've instructed @OfficialDMRC to form a Committee of Experts to investigate the matter, with a report due in two weeks, provide compensation  compensation within 24 hours and extend full support to the injured & their families for medical treatment," he said in the post.

Mr Gahlot said he has directed the DMRC to constitute a committee of experts which shall inquire into this incident and submit a report within two weeks. "The DMRC shall disburse ex-gratia compensation as per rules within 24 hours. All necessary assistance shall be extended to the injured people and their families to ensure proper medical treatment," read the order.

The DMRC announced Rs 25 lakh as compensation for the family of the man who died in the incident. The DMRC announced Rs 5 lakh for the grievously injured and Rs 1 lakh for those who received minor injuries, it stated. It also suspended two of its officials over the incident.

How Pet Dog Led Rescue Teams To Missing Tourists Who Died On Walking Trail

The police found the bodies of two people who died allegedly after slipping and falling in the snow in Himachal Pradesh's Billing Valley. A pet dog stood guard over them for almost two days, officials said.

The two tourists, including a woman, went missing on Sunday. The rescue teams searching for the two on Tuesday heard the barks of the German Shepherd, the police said.

On following the sound, they reached the bodies that were lying on the side of a walking trail, three kilometres below the take-off point for paragliders, they added.

For almost two days, the dog, named Alpha, guarded the bodies, which bore marks of attack by wild animals, according to the police.

When the rescue teams removed the bodies, the dog accompanied them to Bir on foot from where the man's family took him, the police said. The victims, identified as Abhinandan Gupta (30), a resident of Pathankot, and his friend Pranita Wala (26) from Pune, had arrived in Bir Billing, a famous paragliding destination in Himachal Pradesh's Kangra district, on Sunday afternoon.

The two came in a private car along with Mr Gupta's dog. After parking the car, they left on foot to the take-off point for paragliders.

When the two did not return to Chogan near Bir, their friends on Monday informed the police, following which a rescue team launched a search operation and recovered the bodies on Tuesday.

Preliminary investigation suggests that the man and the woman slipped in the snow, sustained injuries, and died due to extreme cold, Kangra ASP Veer Bahadur said.

The autopsy report will reveal the circumstances under which both the two died, he said.

Mr Gupta lived in a rented house near Chaugan in Bir for the last five years, while the girl came to Bir a few days ago, the police said.

Lots In A Name: Probe Agency Raids Wrong Businessman's Bengal Home

Sleuths of the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Tuesday reached the residence of a businessman in West Bengal's Hooghly district, while it actually wanted to go to another person's place.

The aggrieved family threatened legal action against the central agency if such an incident is recurred.

A team of ED officers, accompanied by central forces personnel, raided the house of Subhadeep Sadhukha at Chinsurah on Tuesday morning, mistaking him for Sandip Sadhukha.

The raid was in connection with their investigation into the alleged embezzlement of MGNREGA funds.

"Initially, the ED officers did not listen to us. We repeatedly told them that my son is Subhadeep and not Sandip but they continued to harass us. Ten officers of the ED came to conduct the raid," Subhadeep's father said.

Subhadeep looks after the family business of lozenge and they have been residents of Chinsurah for several decades.

"We are shocked. This is a big insult to our family. we will seek legal assistance if such mistakes are repeated," the angry father said.

Local people, who protested against the ED raid, described the family as decent and well-known in the area.

"Such mistakes are not expected from any central probe agency," a resident of the locality said.

The officers of the central probe agency soon left and went to the correct address where they conducted a search operation for nearly seven hours.

When contacted, an ED officer did not want to comment on the matter.

Devotees Demand To Install Bell In Southern Cellar Of Gyanvapi Mosque

After the order of Varanasi District Court on Gyanvapi Mosque, the petitioner and devotees have demanded to install bell and other puja materials in the Vyas ka 'Tehkhana' where prayers are being performed.

Sanchit Rastogi, a textile businessman from Kashi bought bell and other puja materials and as per the legal procedure, through his lawyer Sudhir Tripathi, he will meet the receiver of Gyanvapi i.e., the District Magistrate and demand to install the puja material in the temple.

"After the puja started, we will hand over the bell and arti materials to the District Magistrate. Since he is the receiver, he should get these things installed as per the right arrangement so that they can be used daily during the puja. We believe that when the Aarti is being performed, then it is important to have proper materials," he told ANI.

Hindu side's lawyer Sudhir Tripathi said that after the DM's approval, we will install the bell in the complex.

"The receiver is the District Magistrate and on his orders, the bell will be hung there. We have prepared the application on behalf of the devotee for installing the bell. I will give the application before the magistrate, after that, we will install it," he said.

Rekha Pathak, a petitioner in the Gyanvapi Shringaar Gauri case told news agency ANI that they will get the required permission to install the bell at the puja area.

"Symbols of 'Damru' and 'Trishul' have been found which shows that all the evidence are of our Lord Shiva. Therefore, we planned to install a bell in the 'Tehkhana' in which the puja has started. We are following the law only. We will get permission because it is a part of the puja," she said.

Meanwhile, Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Tirtha Kshetra treasurer Govind Dev Giri Maharaj said that the Hindu community will forget about all other things if these temples (Gyanvapi and Krishna Janmabhoomi) are freed peacefully.

"We do not even desire to look at the other temples if these temples are freed because we have to live in the future and not in the past. The country's future should be good and if we get these temples (Gyanvapi and Krishna Janmabhoomi) peacefully we will forget about all other things," Dev Giri Maharaj said on Sunday in Pune.

He also appealed to the Muslim side for a peaceful solution for all these three temples.

The statement from Govind Dev Giri Maharaj came days after the Allahabad High Court denied the stay on the Varanasi Court order that allowed the Hindu side to offer prayers in the southern cellar of Gyanvapi mosque.

The court granted time until February 6 for the Masjid Intezamia Committee of Gyanvapi mosque to amend its pleadings to include a challenge to a January 17 order consequent to which the January 31 order was passed.

Watch: BJP "Feeds" Honey To Mamata Banerjee's Pic For Remark On PM Modi

Protesting against Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's alleged derogatory comments against Prime Minister Narendra Modi, BJP supporters "fed" honey to Ms Banerjee's photograph to “sweeten her language”.

During a rally taken out by the BJP's youth wing in Kolkata, party workers said they also carried copies of ‘Barnaparichay', a popular primer written by Iswarchandra Vidyasagar, a 19th-century polymath and an icon in the state, to remind her about the richness of the Bengali language.

The Trinamool Congress stressed the need for self-introspection for the BJP, alleging that the state's Leader of Opposition Suvendu Adhikari and other leaders talk about Ms Banerjee in a derogatory way.

The Chief Minister allegedly used an offensive word against PM Modi during her recent dharna demanding the release of MGNREGA funds due to Bengal.

"We deplore the way Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee talked about a respected leader like Modiji. This goes against the culture of Bengal and our heritage,” BJP youth leader Indranil Khan told reporters.

“This also goes against the ideals of luminaries like Vidyasagar who introduced 'Barnaparichay' to initiate Bengalis with the rich language. We are feeding honey on the lips of the Chief Minister (in a photo) as a symbolic step," he said.

Reacting to this, TMC spokesperson Kunal Ghosh said that while Ms Banerjee has always been respectful towards her political opponents, BJP leaders like Suvendu Adhikari refer to her as a "thief" and use derogatory words about national leaders of other non-BJP parties, like the Congress.

“Let them apologise for such expressions first," Mr Ghosh said.

Nitish Kumar-Led Newly Formed NDA Government To Seek Trust Vote On Feb 12

The newly formed NDA government in Bihar, headed by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, will seek the trust vote on February 12, the inaugural day of the budget session, according to a revised notification issued on the matter on Thursday.

Earlier, the less-than-a-week-old government was scheduled to seek the vote of confidence on February 10.

However, according to a fresh notification, the session will now commence on February 12 which will also witness the governor's address to a joint session of members of both Houses.

JD(U) president Nitish Kumar on January 28 took oath as Chief Minister of Bihar for a record ninth time, ditching the Mahagathbandhan and the opposition bloc INDIA and forming a new government with the BJP, which he had dumped less than 18 months ago.

The election of a new Speaker, who would succeed Awadh Bihari Choudhary of the RJD, is also scheduled on February 12 and so is tabling of the state Economic Survey.

The budget which was earlier slated for tabling on February 12, will now be presented a day after.

The session will come to a close on March 1 after eleven working days. It is likely to be a stormy budget session as the NDA has moved a no-confidence motion against the Speaker (of the RJD), who has not resigned so far.

Hectic lobbying is on for the posts of the Speaker and ministers.
